This is the story.
A woman in Florida was smoking and six months pregnant when she had a premature-labor “false alarm.” When her doctor found out she was smoking, he concluded that this was dangerous for the baby, and went and got a judge to rule that the woman had to stay in the hospital so that she could be kept from smoking.
So my question is this: why is it that a pregnant mother can legally be prevented from endangering a fetus by smoking when abortion is considered a constitutional right? How can this double standard in our legal system exist?
