why i criticize the government

Looking over some of my previous posts, I realized that I criticize the government frequently in unflattering terms.  I want to make one thing clear:  I do not criticize the government because I resent it.  I’m glad the government is there, and I am thankful for the protection it provides for us from evil people who would take away our liberties and oppress us violently.  The United States Government–indeed, the concept of government in general, is an excellent thing that I am thankful for.  It is with this in mind that I criticize it.  Our government was founded upon a Constitution that did and still does invite frequent public examination and criticism of government processes, and our elected officials all frequently lean on public opinion in the formation of policy.  And so bearing in mind that our government today not only tolerates but invites public input and criticism, I post from time to time my own disagreements with it, not as a way to advocate hatred for government or stir up any sort of resistance.  I criticize the government because that is one way in wish the government invites me and all concerned citizens to contribute toward its mission of promoting a just and safe environment for us all to live in.  Viva government!
