I do, however want to draw your attention toward an important project: Tor. Tor is an online system which provides a free open network through which people can access the internet in a manner which, if I understand it right, is pretty much untraceable even for government agents.
I hesistated somewhat, thinking perhaps that I’d be enabling people to do illegal things by directing them toward the Tor Project, I’ve decided to do it anyway for three reasons. First, because the Tor Project is easily accessible online, anyone who wants to use it for truly nefarious purposes could already find it anyhow.
Second, and more importantly, there are a great numbers of believers in countries where Christian activities are persecuted. For them, the use of Tor could be an excellent way to more securely access information–things they might need to keep out of the prying hands of totalitarian states.
Third, some people feel that the internet allows way too much personal information to be collected by various companies and individuals, in online banking for example, you wouldn’t want your information to be easily harvested. And although I haven’t yet chosen to take any extraordinary measures to protect my own privacy, it would be legitimate for those who want to.
