an article on mineral rights

We are all to obey the authorities.  This I believe, as taught by the Scriptures and vital to the very existence of human society.  However, it is neccessary for good government to operate on right principles, or else it may degenerate to the point that its function is no different than that of the strongest gang in a lawless place, taking property and lives at will and without provocation.

I, and the good people of New Zealand, have the benefit of living in a nation whose legal principles include the public discussion and debate of legal principles and ideas, and so for us in Democratic nations it is encouraged that we have lively discussions concerning the role of government, even if this puts us in some disagreement with the policies currently being carried out.  And all this can be done by law-abiding citizens.

And so because we live in nations which give public discourse such an exalted place in the formation of laws, it is vital that we as a society learn to listen to the arguments for and against various policies.  And one such set of arguments may be found at the ‘MandM’ blog.  Here.
