Yes, I am what might variously be called conservative, libertarian, or classical liberal. But no, I don’t listen to Glenn Beck–I’ve found much more efficient ways of getting my hands on much more interesting and worthwhile news. Nevertheless, I thought I’d try to fashion a reply to Joel’s expression of puzzlement. “Why in the world good conservatives, and Christians for that matter, still listen to Beck, I have no real idea.” One reason is that he covers economic issues and exposes people to great minds like Hayek–whose works have gone against the grain of typical liberty-hating spending-crazed economists like Krugman, whose policies are sinking the US into crippling debt. Now, that’s just an explanation of why some listen, not a justification for everything Beck says. Joel is right on Beck’s dishonest revisionist dismissal of the racism of early America.
why might a christian listen to beck?

A little leaven… and Beck is nothing but leaven
I hate to admit you might be right on that. Anyhow, there’s plenty of more worthwhile sources of information for liberty-loving Christians.
Like MSNBC, for this liberty loving Christian, or your blog
Thank you, Joel–your blog is also one of the places I go for news. Every day I have internet access. I’m honored that you’ve placed me above Beck despite my evil Australian economic views.
Mitchell, we may disagree on economic issues, but from what I can see, you are honest, sane, and sincere.
And you as well. May we continue to disagree as agreeably as possible until such date as you may be converted . . .
