NBC journalist Chuck Todd has lately been blasting “Drudge-Driven Journalism“. Why? Some might say it’s because Drudge‘s right-wing leanings. But I have to suspect that intermixed into the frustration might be something to do with the fact that people are increasingly turning away from traditional forms of media and getting their information from web-based sources. And why are they doing this? I contend that it’s not because the world is turning into a bunch of mush-brained ninnies. On the contrary, it’s because of a simple fact that NBC and other giants can’t stand: internet-based media is doing a superior job of disseminating news. Take for example, the Monica Lewinsky affair, which would not have reached us were it not for the Drudge Report. That’s why Drudge, a lone man operating a single website that doesn’t even look impressive, rakes in a million dollars a year.
